Patrick McCabe is an award-winning film and television editor based in Naarm / Melbourne, Australia

  • Patrick McCabe is a highly skilled film editor with a natural passion for storytelling and technology. With more than 17 years of experience in drama and documentary cutting rooms, Patrick's approach to editing is that of a holistic collaborator. He sees the edit tools as a means to an end, and helps to steer the project to its full potential.

Patrick's work has gained recognition at Rotterdam International Film Festival (IFFR), Hot Docs (Toronto), Sydney Film Festival (SFF) and Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF); multiple nominations at the Australian Screen Editors Guild “Ellie” awards; and nominations and a win at the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) awards.

Patrick's storytelling techniques and eye for the perfect cut have evolved across his body of work — a diverse array of scripted and unscripted long-form, short-form and multi-channel projects. His natural sense of rhythm is demonstrated through his history of songwriting and music production. He firmly believes in the power of editing as a provocation via the impeccable timing of picture and sound.

In 2018, Patrick established Portmanteau Pictures, a company focused on producing uniquely Australian stories for international audiences. Patrick’s debut feature film as producer, Flathead, is released in 2024.
